Welcome

Welcome to Class RT with Mrs Turner and Mrs Cooper. Through this page we hope to keep you up to date with the work and achievement of Year 5. Keep visiting to see what work we have been doing and any messages.
Please pop in to the class if you have any questions or would like to see what we are up to in class.

BRASS MUSIC LESSONS
Class RT have been fortunate to have Mr Lees visiting once a week teaching them to use various brass instruments. The children are progressing well with the instruments and are well on their way to learning the tune for 'We will rock you'.

TOPICS

FOOD, GLORIOUS FOOD Ciao! This half term we will transporting ourselves to the European country of Italy! We will be learning more about the country and focusing on foods that come from the country. Even learning some of the language!

TAKE ONE PICTURE Last half term saw us studying the painting Tobias and the Angel. Looking closely at the painting and linking it with the curriculum we created some inspiring work focusing Saints and Angels!

Tobias and the Angel is painted using egg tempera. A combination of coloured pigment and egg yolk. Many of the beautiful paintings from the Renaissance were painted using egg tempera. One afternoon saw Class RT cracking eggs and separating the egg yolk to mix with coloured powder paints. Taking the work we had done on Christian symbols we created beautiful pieces of artwork using the egg tempera.

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION Did you know there used to be a silk mill in Newton Poppleford? Before Christmas we became our very own time team and researched the silk mill that employed a large number of Newton Poppleford during the Victorian period. Phil from Parishscapes introduced the project by reading a letter he had recieved about a silk mill in Newton Poppleford. Not much is known about the mill which is where we came in! Although we will be starting a new topic this half term we will still continue to dip into the research of the silk mill.

Below are examples of using a variety of colours from natural resources.

SPELLINGS
Spellings are given out every Tuesday and will be stuck in the children's Home School books. They will have a week to learn their spellings and will be tested on the following Tuesday. Use the Look, Cover, Write and Check method to practise the spellings and create sentences featuring each spelling word.
