This leaflet aims to give parents/carers a brief outline of what you and your child can expect from the pre-school and toddler Group. Our pre-school information pack and welcome pack will give you more information about how pre-school is run and the policies that are followed.

An introduction to Rainbow Pre-School and Toddler Group.

Rainbow Pre-School and Toddler Group is situated in the grounds of Newton Poppleford Primary School and enjoys self-contained premises dedicated to the care of the under fives.

The group is an independently run organisation, a registered charity (no: 1030737) and is registered with OFSTED under the Childrens’ Act 1989 to provide day care. The group is also a member of the Pre-School Learning Alliance.

Rainbow Pre-School is a designated early years provider under the Devon’s Early Years & Childcare Service. As a provider the pre-school is eligible for grant funding for the provision of places for three and four-year olds. As general rule children are eligible for grant funding the term after they turn three.

The management of the group is carried out by an elected committee of parents/carers, which deals with all elements of running what is in effect a small business. Staff employed by the Rainbow Committee are responsible for the day to day running of the activities of the pre-school.

Rainbow Pre-school aims to provide a broad and balanced early years curriculum, matched to the individual needs of the children. Through a carefully planned and well organised environment we intend that children will be given rich and stimulating experiences.

We hope that you and your child will be extremely happy at Rainbow Pre-School. We encourage everyone to take an active part in the running of the group, after all it is an organisation which is owned by us for our children.

Toddler Group

The Toddler Group is aimed at children 0 – 3 years of age, older children are also welcome. The Toddler Group meets on Friday afternoons between 1.30 pm and 3.00 pm.

Opportunities are provided for children to enjoy the environment of our playrooms and for parents/carers to meet socially. A fee of £1.00 per parent/carer, £0.50 per child is charged for each session. Refreshments are provided for children and adults.

The group is run by a qualified member of staff, with a rota for some of the tasks for the smooth running of the sessions.

Pre-school

Rainbow Pre-School opens five mornings a week during term times. Sessions run from 9.00 am to 12.00 noon. Refreshments are provided for the children during the morning.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, afternoon sessions are run for the children in the term that they become four years old. Sessions run from 12.00 noon to 3.00 pm and children are asked to bring a packed lunch.

Fees are payable in advance and are reviewed annually at our A.G.M.

Following your first enquiry into our pre-school your child’s name will be put on our waiting list and we will then contact you with more details nearer your child’s third birthday. We will arrange a time for your child to visit the pre-school during a session and we will discuss how to make the transition between home and pre-school as easy as possible.

When a child starts to attend the pre-school she/he is allocated a ‘keyworker’. A keyworker is a member of staff that is given a small group of children to pay special attention to.

Parents/carers whose children join our pre-school are asked to help out at regular intervals. A high adult:child ratio helps to provide individual attention to each child’s needs and development. A leaflet ‘Parent/Carer Helpers’ is included in the Playgroup Information Pack and gives more details about helping at pre-school.

Starting School

Rainbow Pre-School has established close links with Newton Poppleford Primary School. A pre-school programme of visits is arranged for children that will be attending the school and visits usually take place in the half term prior to starting school. Written details from the school will be provided nearer the time.
