From Yesterday in Newton Poppleford
Adam Davis attended Newton Poppleford School between 1998 and 1994. Adam is currently working within East Devon Ambulance Service after studying for his paramedic science degree enabling him to practice as a paramedic. He is also a volunteer crew member of the Sidmouth Lifeboat and during 2014 undertook a cycling challenge around the UK to raise awareness of independent lifeboats raising money for Sidmouth lifeboat.
At the time of writing former pupil Alex Dunn is walking to Everest Base Camp.
Blathnaid McCullagh and Sarah Clarke both left Newton Poppleford Primary School in 2006. They are now both studying geography at Oxford University.
Christopher Hudson attended Newton Poppleford school from 1985 to 1989, his parents still live in the village. He qualified from Bristol University as a vet in 2002 working at a mixed vet practice in Axminster for a couple of years – treating all species! He then returned to Bristol University to specialise in farm animal work, initially as a resident - a post grad training post - and then as a member of staff. In 2009 he moved to the new vet school at Nottingham University where he is a Clinical Lecturer in Dairy Cow Health and Production teaching veterinary students how to help dairy farmers manage their cattle to prevent disease.
Chris Turner attended Newton Poppleford Primary School between 2000 and 2007. He was Head Boy at Sidmouth College.
Douglas Morgan attended Newton Poppleford School in 1988 after moving from Bristol. He went on to attend Sidmouth College and Bristol University where he gained a degree in physics with astrophysics. After travelling abroad he went on to study medicine for five years, graduating as a doctor in 2011. He is now employed in the A and E department at Wrexham hospital. Doug has also completed a 400 mile walk raising money for UNICEF and worked as a volunteer doctor in South Africa.
was at Newton Poppleford Primary School from 2004 to 2011. He went to South Africa in February 2014 with Devon Under 15’s cricket team.
James Morgan attended Newton Poppleford School between 1985 and 1989. He went on to attend Sidmouth College and Cardiff University where he gained a first class honours degree in computer science. James now lives in London, working as a senior technical manager for an international Internet company. In his spare time he enjoys photography and some of his photos have been selected for use by Oxford University.
Libby Morrison and Jade Mortimer are attending the South West Music School starting their core program.
Louis Morrison attended Newton Poppleford Primary School between 2007 and 2013. He currently plays football with the Exeter City Academy and is also in the Under 12 Devon County Cricket squad.
Sarah Philpot spent all her primary years at Newton Poppleford school and continued onto Sidmouth College and Chichester University to study primary teaching. Sarah confesses to wanting to be the next Mrs Winterburn! – of whom she has fond memories. She qualified in 2008 with 2:1 with honours and QTS status. Sarah has been teaching in Devon ever since her qualification. She says "Thank you, Newton Poppleford School and staff for being the building blocks of my future and giving me the best start in education to enable me to do the same for other children."
Special mention must be given to the Turner Brothers – Sam and Ollie – otherwise known as “Brothers on Bikes”. They have raised literally thousands of pounds for Sidmouth Hospicare, Cancer Research UK and Hospicare by cycling from John O’Groats to Land’s End.
