About the PTFA

The work of the PTFA (Parent Teacher Friends Association) is invaluable to the School, enriching the quality of education and School environment for our children. All parents are automatically members of the PTFA. The Association's activities are organised by a committee of parents who are elected at a general meeting each year. It enables groups of parents to meet together with the aim of supporting and maintaining the positive relationship between parents and the School.

Through numerous fundraising events in recent years the PTFA has been able to cover the cost of school trips, buy classroom resources and furniture, outdoor play equipment, and staging for the hall. Last year saw an enormous effort to raise money for essential equipment needed in the new school building and this campaign resulted in a staggering £20,000 being raised in a single year!

The success of the PTFAs events and activities relies on the generosity of local businesses and organisations, the hard work of our committee members, and the wonderful support of our parents and staff. Thank you for continuing to support the PTFAs efforts!

The PTFA can be contacted at npptfa@gmail.com, or via any of the individual committee members.

2018/19 Outside Spaces Campaign

This year the PTFA are fundraising to improve our school's Outside Spaces, and our plans include creating a Wildflower Meadow, Sensory Garden, and Fitness Trail. This project will be ongoing as we landscape our new school grounds over the next few years.

We remain committed to providing classroom resources, school trips, and other enhancements to our children’s learning experience alongside this wider campaign.

2017-2018 Fundraising

Newton Poppleford Primary School PTFA

Drum roll please…. The 2017/18 PTFA £10,000 Fundraising Challenge… has raised a massive £19,555!

Why did we do it?

Our beautiful 130 year old school house is no longer fit for purpose and it, along with the outlying ‘temporary‘ classrooms and canteen, will be demolished later this year. Whilst it is sad to lose such an iconic building, the Education Skills Authority has commissioned a brand new building to replace it. The build has cost approximately £3.2million and the children will begin the new school year in their state of the art building. However, the budget only stretches to the basics, leaving us without essential items within the new building and playground. We need staging and lighting for the new hall, storage furniture, book cases, seating, signage, classroom window blinds, outdoor seating, playground markings, and many other items. Government funding for schools is tight at the best of times, and our long shopping list of required items runs to over £30,000.

The Challenge!

The PTFA committed to raising £10,000 during this academic year to help meet the cost of these items, we launched our campaign in October 2017, which seemed daunting at first as this is three times our normal annual fundraising total! But a group of dedicated parents and teachers set about planning a year of fundraising efforts and grant applications to meet our target by July 2018.

How did we do it?

We held all our normal annual fundraising events; Village Bonfire Night, Christmas Fair, Pudding and Quiz Night, and our bigger than ever before spectacular village Summer Fete. We launched a grand raffle that was kindly supported by local businesses donating prizes. We have also received generous donations from local businesses and organisations; The Sidmouth Lions, Newton Poppleford Cricket Club, Sidmouth Darts League, Clinton Devon Estates, Purple Bricks, Elliots Builders, and Sea Salt Sidmouth. We were delighted to receive significant grants, for staging and lighting from the Norman Family Trust, and for playground equipment from the Tesco Bags of Help scheme. The parents and staff from the school undertook personal sponsored challenges, with a 10km run, a staff mini run, and The Grizzly. The children also took up the challenge, raising money through a fun run, danceathon, readathon, and selling a school comic book!

Thank you!

We not only reached, but far exceeded our target, this is a huge achievement and we are so grateful for all the effort from everyone involved in planning and coordinating. The support from the parents, teachers, and wider community has been overwhelming, heartfelt thanks to everyone who has contributed in any way to this spectacular result. We all look forward to seeing the money spent in our new school, and to what we can achieve together next year!
